Green Canyon...A Canyon with Lots of Greeny Things

On my last holiday this month, me and my friends went to a place which is known as Green Canyon. It is located in Kabupaten Ciamis (still in the part of West Java Province), about 30 kilos away from Pangandaran Beach. You can get here by all means of transportion. The road infrastructure along the way here is quite good enough. So, you don't have to worry about the wiggly-wobbly road.Green Canyon or known previously as Cukang Taneuh, is part of Cijulang river that went subteranean through a cave with naturally-formed rocky structure, stalactites and stalagmites. You'll need a boat to get here. It can be rented at Ciseureuh dock located near the main gate. It'll cost around 75,000 rupiahs a boat for 5 people. Thankfully, there were 5 of us. And that would be only a boat for us to get there. Here is a photo of us in front of the main gate.

Here is one of the view along the way to Green Canyon. I appologize for some inappropriate appreances in the photo ^^ (FYI, the man in the photo is the guide.)

Unfortunately,we went there not in the right moment. The river were brownish due to the flood caused by the rainy weather along that week. Beside that, the water current in the cave was way too fast.

Due to the highly flow current, we have to continue the journey on foot through the tropical forest after tying up the boat to a dock near the cave. (Our guide asked for another payment because he has to guide us through the forest. So, we added another 100,000 rupiahs after that.)

After a long tiring hike and walk, there we were. Green Canyon... (Click 'Read More' below to see the rest of the writing)

To get to Palatar waterfall at the enterance of the cave, we have attempted a trial. We went on climbing the steeply sloping riverbank, as can be seen below. But, the path was getting smaller. For our own safety, we regretly have to stop continuing the trial.

As the sun getting higher, we went back to the dock (near the cave). And of course, we went back through the forest.

Our guide offered us to swim back to Ciseureuh dock. After putting on the live vest, we went swimming along the way back. Well, actually we were not swimming, but rather went along the current in the river. Unfortunately, we have to get back on the boat, because lots of boat coming from the oppsite direction. Again, it was for ouwn safety. Though, it was only a vacation. Here is a photo of us in the river.

My advise, try to get here not on the rainy season in Indonesia. You'll find it more beautiful than this. Instead of finding the river in brownish, you'll see the river in greenish. Just like what it is called...Green Canyon.
