My Dissertation Project

One morning,I got an email from one of our lovely program administrator,informing that the dissertation topic has been chosen for me and the other member of the program. Finally,I said. There was a rumour saying that the topic will be decided after the first term ended. And from the three choices we have taken and ordered them prior to our interest, they will pick for us only one base on our academic performance in the first term. But,it seems things didn't happen that way.

And the topic was Numerical Flow Simulation of the Urban Canyon. This was my third choice in the list. I still don't know what kind of judgement they are using to conclude that I should done this in the first place. However,I'm happy with it,as long as it related to the environmental-friendly stuffs and numerical simulation or CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics).
Based on the brief description of the topic,what I am going to do here is building a model of an area,a certain part from a certain city. Run a numerical simulation on the model with an in-house code generated by one the research group here. You may say this code as a software. And compare the result with the one taken from the experiment conducted before. Three main parameters will be observed and evaluated here. Those are wind speed, air temperature, and pollutant concentration. Each of these parameters is not a stand-alone parameter. Some changes in one parameter would easily affect the other, either an increment or decrement.
Talking about the numerical simulation,that wouldn't be far enough from mathematics. What role does mathematics have here? In practice,It helps us building a set of equations to calculate the parameters mentioned above. These equations are later being discretized with some methods to be used in the simulation. 'To discretize' means to make things simple. Taken that definition here,discretizing an equation means simplifying the mathematical operation involved in the equation. For instance,a differential equation. This is simply a subtracting and dividing operation,as can be seen in finding a gradient from a straight line in a cartesian coordinate. Okay,I think that would be enough. I don't want you to get confused and far too deep in explaining all those stuffs.
I have read a paper (not finish yet) related to this topic. I took some notes from it and stick the notes to the wall in front of me. By doing so,It helps me on getting a view of what I'm going to do with the topic,though It would be a different one from my topic. But the thing is the general idea that governs the the topic. Some of them might shared the same idea. But in the end,they would pick different things to be discussed in the analysis.
It's already 11 pm and I have to continue doing my revision for the exams. I'll try to keep my blog updated with my project for the dissertation. And some other things that come to my mind,things that you should all know. Cheers,guys!

dr gambar yg aku tangkep kaya aliran medan magnet.. tp dr yg aku baca bukan seperti itu.. he:D pertanyaanya adl urban canyon di negara kita selain di ibukota. dimana lagi? btw apa ada hubungannya dg scramble? (hasna)

hehe,bukan seperti itu. insha Allah,akan saya update setiap capaian dari projek disertasi saya ini.
based on the paper i've already read,ada tiga kategori ukuran cakupan dari urban canyon ini. yang pertama ada mesoscale,ini skalanya mencakup kawasan perkotaan dan rural di sekitar kota tersebut. yang kedua,local scale,skalanya lebih kecil dan spesifik,misalnya ke areal rural. yang ketiga,microscale,skala yang lebih kecil lagi,misalnya antara dua bangunan,bisa di perkotaan atau rural. kira2 begitu :)

scramble? masa gak tau itu lho scramble egg ato permainan nyusun kata *scrable .. hehe maaf malah becanda..
sbg awam sy mencari dr wiki itu kaya kecepatan angin di daerah urban ya yg nanti terus ada canyon effect juga? dimana itu bepengaruh pd sinyal gps,kualitas air, kecepatan angin itu td & suhu. local scale&micro scale bhubungan dg angin..
maaf kalau awam ini sok tau :)
ttg scramble wah lupain aja, itu krn sy kmrn diskusi ma sepupu anak itb juga (teknik fisika) soal sinyal hape di antara gedung" tinggi (krn kos saya dismg blakang gedung") kenapa kok ilang muncul gt. dy blg di-scramble lg..
mk dr itu sy mengkaitkan dg topik ini, tp kayana salah sambung deh :)

ya anak eko belajar teknik - alhasil ky gini deh.. :D
anyway ttg museum itu lupain aja, hehe.. sy jg cm penasaran krn baca di artikel..

ooo,itu maksudnya scramble. iya,fokusnya berbeda. outputnya berupa distribusi angin,temperatur,dan konsentrasi polutan. mengenai korelasinya dengan sinyal,ga akan sampai ke sana. bukan field saya :)

my pleasure raditya.. i like reading about anything, as long as it's useful &add to my knowledge. s'suai dg sabda Rasul SAW : menuntut ilmu wajib hukumnya bagi muslim&muslimah.
